I would like to try to write a different book review each month. I think it is helpful to read others' opinions of different books. Given my lack of free time to read, it may be difficult to pull it off each month, but that is my goal!
So, here's my review of So You're Thinking About Homeschooling: Fifteen Families Show How You Can Do It! by Lisa Whelchel (Blair from the Facts of Life). This is a great book for introducing the subject of homeschooling to those interested. With her easy, conversational style Whelchel introduces the reader to 15 families who tell their story of how and why they began homeschooling. In this manner, the reader learns the various types and methods of homeschooling from Classical to Charlotte Mason to Unit Studies to Unschooling.
By reading the stories of each family you will find suggestions for how to structure your day and organize your home to ensure your success as a homeschooling family. Tips are given for yearly planning and record keeping. Included is a helpful Appendix of various resources and curriculum. There is even a section about how to prepare for and navigate local and state homeschool conventions.
I love the friendly glimpses into the lives of the different families. Even as a veteran homeschooler, I found some encouragement from reading the stories of each family.
I believe that this book will become my number one recommendation to families who ask for my help getting started with their homeschool journey!
Until Next Time,
~Linda~
