In spite of some of the sad things going on with me right now, there are some great things happening as well. My in-laws are in the process of adopting a 14 year old boy from Russia named Igor.
Igor came to the US in January of 2007. He was brought here by Project Hope and the Shriner's Hospital. Igor was born with a deformity and left on the doorstep of an orphanage. When he came to the States, he had surgery to have his left leg amputated from the knee down. He was then fitted with a prosthetic leg. Igor is now able to run and play as much as any other kid.
Igor is adjusting relatively well to life in his new family. My husband is the oldest of three children who are all grown and have families of their own now, so Igor is in effect an only child now.
There is still a lot to do in order for them to be able to adopt him. The biggest obstical is money (as it usually is with anything). They still need to raise $17,000, and they have to do it by January 2009.
I am writing to ask for your help in this. We would love to see Igor stay. If they do not raise the money by January, Igor will have to return to Russia and will never have the chance to be adopted or to return to the United States again. This would essentially be a death sentence for Igor. He will be 15 in a couple of weeks. At age 18 he will be turned out of the orphanage and left to live a life on the streets. There will be no training for him and because of his handicapped status, most people would be unwilling to hire him. He will have nothing.
Please help us to keep Igor here. Please help us save this boy's life so that he can be used for God's glory.
If you would like to help, please visit Igor's website.
Until next time,
~Linda~
