I recently joined a blog group that agrees to write a post every Monday about the joys of mothering. Sometimes we get so bogged down in the day-to-day cleaning, training, disciplining, and schooling of our children that we just focus on the negative. I know that I tend to do that. Mondays on Mothering is about helping us look beyond the frustration that we sometimes feel and focus on the joy.
I have four children, ages 11, 6, 2 and 7 months. Obviously there are some tough and stressful times! But the joy that comes from these four little people is overwhelming at times. Sometimes I watch them playing and interacting with each other and tears come to my eyes from the love that swells up inside of me! Right now my six year old and 7 month old sons are in the floor playing so sweetly together. I'm so thankful for the relationships that my children are building with each other. Do they argue? Certainly! But I can see the love that they have for each other shine forth every day! They definitely have more love for each other than my sister and I had when we were young (sorry Gail, I love you!!!).
My six year old, Nathan, just had his birthday in September. He asked for Legos and received PLENTY!! He got two sets exactly the same. We told him that we would take him to Toys R Us to exchange one set for a different one, but he didn't want to do that. He told us that he wanted to give the extra set to his eleven year old brother instead because Evan didn't have that set and he really wanted it! How many of us would have given our sibling one of our extra birthday presents when we were six years old??
I'm excited to see the kind of relationships they have when they are older. Through the suggestion of Cindy Rushton, in addition to my number one prayer for my children - that they would know the saving grace of Jesus - I have begun praying that my children will always be each other's best friends! I know they will because God's Word promises that we shall have whatever we ask for in Jesus' name!
Until next time,
~Linda~
